Investing Simplified

Getting Started

The DIY Investor was founded to create a simple investing resource for aspiring investors.  That being said, let’s start with setting up three basic investing guidelines.

  1. Invest with a long term focus
  2. Invest in companies you understand
  3. Invest in wonderful companies at a fair price, not fair companies at a wonderful price

The first two guidelines are fairly straightforward.  The third will take a great deal of time and effort to uncover wonderful companies at a fair price.  Don’t worry - That is where The DIY Investor comes into play.  We take a conservative, hand crafted approach towards valuing companies and present the results as a simple range of prices (low / mid / high).  Our goal is to help bring clarity on whether your investment idea is valuated at a fair price.  The rest is up to you.

During our search for simple investing resources, we came across two quotes from renowned investor, Warren Buffett, that ultimately inspired us to take action and create The DIY Investor.

“There seems to be some perverse human characteristic that likes to make easy things difficult.” - Warren Buffett

"Ultimately, there's one investment that supersedes all others: Invest in yourself. Nobody can take away what you've got in yourself, and everybody has potential they haven't used yet." - Warren Buffett

The core philosophy of The DIY Investor was formed at the crossroads of these two simple quotes.  Investing Simplified.
